Stair lift systems and lift platforms: overview of the main characteristics and types

Ascertained that the elevator is definitely the lifting system safer and faster, in many cases, especially in the adaptation of existing dwellings, its installation is not possible due to lack of space.

The possible solutions to this point are of two types:

a. platform lift can be placed in a special compartment or in the stairwell with a smaller footprint than the elevator and can overcome differences of up to a maximum of 4 m;

b. stairlift that hooks to the stairs articulated along the same path up to a maximum of 4m.

The lifting platform created exclusively for persons in wheelchairs are equipped with railings and safety systems which prevent the possibility of escape, one must ensure that it is provided a locking system which prevents the fall of the platform downwards in case of failure.

Even stairlifts are divided into two categories: fixed and mobile.

- Fixed stairlifts are true installations that allow the disabled person full autonomy, are platforms that move at an angle parallel to the path of the steps.

- Those furniture are aids that transported on the spot if necessary, simplify the task of the companion that helps a disabled person to climb or descend the stairs.

The stair lift can be fixed to pedanette for people who can not face the stairs, but do not have a hard time standing.

Occupy little space, which can be further reduced in conditions of rest overturning the footboard against the wall and the installation is simple since it is confined to the application of a rail on a wall.

The stair chair lift instead solves the problem of who has a good ability to walk, but can not climb the steps.

The chair can be fixed on the inner side of the scale to perform a single ramp or on the outside, following the contours perfectly, allowing it to address more flights of stairs without ever get off the chair.

It too can be folded against the wall to decrease clutter.

The platform stair lift is definitely one of the aids for the elimination of architectural barriers no longer required and used.

It consists of a platform on which is placed the wheelchair, the commands are directly activated by the user. The system provides that the control systems are placed also at the two ends of the stroke so as to draw the platform up or down depending on the need.

Like the previous aids also the platform can be folded to reduce the clutter.

The stairlift furniture are constituted by a complex of more wheels, driven by an electric motor and rechargeable batteries which, appropriately guided by the accompanying via two buttons (one for the ascent and one for the descent), facilitates the task of the latter in carry the disabled person on the stairs and a chair, on which the disabled person can sit down.

Alternatively there is the possibility to directly engage their wheelchair over the complex of the wheels.

It is a kind of support that requires much attention and caution on the part of the crew, as well as good strength and good self-control.

Stairlifts furniture safer, but in need of more space and a slope is not excessive are tracked which will remain static in a stable manner on the stairs if the carer leave to set.

The wheelchair, which must be of the type with large rear wheels, is hooked to the two rubber tracks and moves via the driving motor and rechargeable battery.

To prepare for the climb or descent to the accompanying approaches to wheelchair tracked and places it on the handlebar, so as to fasten with two hooks rubber. Once locked on the handlebars, the wheelchair is tilted back so placing the lift in operating position.

It is also advisable to equip the crawler with a headrest.

Finally, there are the stairlift crawler that make completely autonomous in the disabled person up and down the stairs. In this system is not docked the wheelchair as they are equipped with a special seat.
